STAINED GLASS

SCULPTURE

About the Artist:

Lauren Puckett is a stained glass sculptural artist who is developing new processes for the creation and preservation of stained glass.  She received her MFA from the University of Edinburgh and is the recipient of the Edinburgh College of Art’s International PhD Scholarship. Her work researches the environmental impacts on stained glass to utilize new computer numeric control technological processes for the preservation and reconstruction of stained glass works, creating a framing support network that can reduce and/or eliminate the use of lead, in-line with the European Union’s upcoming restriction on the use of lead material.

The School Girls Series, 2020-ongoing

An examination of open spaces and new frameworks. The subjects within the series are the school girls, absent from the streets, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The work seeks to create new portraits of young women in stained glass through a feminist lense. Using the same framework, new stories are told with the lines. The figures take on new narratives depending on where they are viewed, as the open spaces represent the people we become in new places and spaces, as well as parts of ourselves we both show and hide from the world.
